Ask any teenager what they can't live without and you'll probably get two answers--their cell phone (gotta keep in touch with friends after all) and their car, if they have one. And these days, most do. So what is more fitting for senior portraits than pictures taken with a seriously cool car? Oops, that's an 80's term. What is it now? Awesome? Sweet? Chill? Dope? Gnarly? Scratch that, it's so Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Anyway, we've been having a lot of fun with our seniors this summer and, with the cooperation of a couple of local businesses, had the opportunity to take some really chill images. See, I can speak teen--kinda, in a non-cool way. It just doesn't flow as well for me as cool, neat, and wow.
Below are images of Stephanie, one of our senior models, posing with a 1965 Ford Fairlane in an awesome shade of turquoise. This car was loaned to us for a few minutes courtesy of Mark Faulhaber at Oswego Motors Inc. It was one of the few hot days we had this summer. Here are a few of our favorites:
Another of our seniors, Ashley, was happy to take advantage of a chance to pose with a 1969 Jaguar owned by a local businessman here in Oswego. We were also lucky enough to gain access to a small salvage yard with a grungy rusted car for the urban setting the seniors love--we just had to get in and out quickly before the bees got too mad and stung someone. Here are a few from that shoot:
Of course we could have suggested posing with my Chevy Trailblazer but it just wouldn't have been the same. However, if we can talk these nice guys into loaning us a car for the afternoon sometime, we'll see ya as we cruise out of town for a nice, long drive in the country!
Carol, I have enjoyed reading your blogs from the day you moved into the home that I grew up in. I am enjoying your pictures, they are wonderful. They bring back soooo many menories. But I do want to ask, what "gems" did you find when you took our old tree house down??? I am sure there were a few!!

Charla,
How fun! Obviously, you are not the previous owner of the house, as she did not grow up there. I'd love to hear more about you and the house that I have fallen in love with!
I didn't really find anything all that exciting when I took down the treehouse. Mostly just some old plastic toys and pop cans and such. I did dig a little, and it seems as though there is perhaps an old cistern located at the back of the lot? I only know I hit something really hard and metallic feeling, and didn't want to go any farther so as not to disturb it.
I was sorry to see the old treehouse go, as I'm sure there were many great memories for someone of it. But the stairs and decking were falling down and the wood was rotten, as being as how I have children in the yard to photograph them, I couldn't justify the liability, or the potential of a child getting injured.
Please email me at memoriesbycarol@yahoo.com with some history on the place! I've been meaning to do some research and haven't found the time yet. I would love to talk with you!
Regards,
Carol
